WHO is OHM ?
Sir Peter Bonfield


Sir Peter Bonfield began his career with Texas Instruments based in the U.S. After various design, manufacturing and management roles he joined computer company ICL plc in 1981, as Group Marketing Director and Member of the main board.

In 1984 he was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of ICL plc after its merger with STC plc, a telecommunications equipment manufacturer.

In 1987 he was also appointed Deputy Chief Executive of STC plc.

In 1990 as Chairman and CEO of ICL plc, he introduced the Fujitsu Group as a major shareholder and one of the largest mainframe computer makers outside the U.S.

In 1996 Sir Peter was appointed CEO and Chairman of the Executive Committee of British Telecommunications plc, where he served until early 2002. During his tenure, BT was the world’s fifth largest telecommunications company, employing over 130,000 people.

Change management in international technology companies has characterised his work.


Board Mandates

Sir Peter Bonfield is currently Senior Non-Executive Director of the board of AstraZeneca PLC and Non-Executive Director, Corporate Board of the Department for Constitutional Affairs. Sir Peter holds Directorships on the boards of L.M. Ericsson, U.S. based Mentor Graphics Corporation Inc. and Taiwan based semi-conductor company TSMC, where he is also Chairman of the Audit Committee.

His career has included Directorships of B.I.C.C. plc, Cutty Sark Trust, D.E.S.C. Ltd. and mmO2 plc.

He is a Member of the Sony Corporation Advisory Board, the Citigroup International Advisory Board and International Advisory Panel, University of London. He is also Vice President of the British Quality Foundation, and Fellow of The Royal Academy of Engineering.

He has also been a Member of the Trilateral Commission, The European Round Table (Steering Group), The High Level Working Group of the European Information Society, the EU-Japan Business Dialogue Round Table and the Civil Service College Advisory Board.


Awards

Sir Peter was knighted in 1996. He was awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1989 for his contribution to industry, the Order of the Lion of Finland, the Gold Medal from the Institute of Management, and the Mountbatten Medal from the National Electronics Council. He has received Honorary Doctorates from eleven Universities.
